Holiday gifts with sound

Almost every kid wants or has a pair of earbuds or external headphones. Some kids even have noise-canceling headphones to decrease the sensory stimulation so they can concentrate, fall asleep or function through daily activities. Toys that have a musical or audio component to listen to can be good to help with direction following, timing, and rhythm as they move to the beat or command. If you’re working on a child following multiple step commands, timing and rhythm, or just basic engagement with an activity, the toys that make sounds can help.

Some ideas include:

  • Hullabaloo

  • Tube noise makers

  • ‘Look Who’s Listening’ game

  • Electronic Simon

  • I Spy- might be a visual game but they have to listen for all of the clues to find some thing with their eyes

When listening to music for all ages, remember there are multiple studies published that look at sound waves as a healing and health supportive modality. The holidays can be overwhelming for some kids, so remember to allow them to take a sound break here and there by having a spot they can decompress. Then you can return to singing your fun holiday songs and listening to music to add a layer of enjoyment to your holidays.
