Rhythm of Life series: Breath
The first patterned movement after birth is breathing. Our bodies do it automatically in a particular rhythm until our state of awareness changes. It slows down when we sleep and speeds up when we exercise, and can momentarily stop when we get scared or frightened. It is difficult to breathe when we have a stuffy nose, chest congestion, or just smell something rotten. During times of stress or high anxiety, some people hold their breath which makes the pattern irregular.
Our overall mental and nutritional health can affect the basics like breathing. For instance, sugar and dairy are phlegm-producing foods that increase acidity in the body leading to increasing chances of a stuffy nose, ear infections, or chest congestion. And when chest congestion is unaddressed and becomes a chronic problem, it can affect balance, hearing, and auditory processing. Cutting out processed sugars and dairy, and drinking organic mullein tea can be very helpful to decrease the acidic phlegm in the body.
Keeping the body at a higher alkaline state allows for better body health. The above-mentioned foods increase your body’s acidic state, allowing for increased changes for sickness and disease. Eating more foods like fresh fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, and legumes is a great start to increasing the alkalinity of the body and therefore better health.
